Short Story Collections

Divertir Publishing is currently accepting submissions for the following short story collections:

Magical Mishaps

Even in a world of magic, problems cannot be solved with a snap of your fingers. Sometimes, it is the magic that works against you. Just as new technology presents new problems, even the best of magical forces can lead to personal disaster. Divertir Publishing will be publishing an anthology of fantasy stories where the magical elements are not quite what they seem, and work in ways that perhaps were not intended. Fantasy elements can be small and subtle or all-consuming. Elements of science fiction can present new problems and possibilities as well. We’re looking for well-written, original, and clever short stories for the modern reader.

Acceptable word count: 5,000 - 15,000 words

Submission Deadline: November 1st, 2021

Please note that Divertir Publishing does not currently compensate authors for stories included in our collections.

Short Story Submissions

Please send all short story queries to collections@divertirpublishing.com. You can address the email to Ken Tupper, the Publisher. We currently only accept queries electronically.

How your email should look:

  • Name: Your name. Please include your full name in the query. Not including your full name makes it difficult to respond to the query.
  • Subject: Title, collection, word count
  • Body: Your query letter. Please note that queries will often be rejected based solely on the query letter, so it is important your query letter describe your manuscript in enough detail for us to determine if it would be of interest to us. Attach a synopsis and first three chapters of your manuscript in a Word or RTF document.

Please virus scan all submissions before sending them. Receipt of material that contains computer viruses will result in the author’s submissions automatically being rejected and the author’s email address being blocked. If you are unable to virus scan your query, please include all requested material in the body of your email as plain text.

Queries will be reviewed after the submission deadline, and all authors will be contacted regarding the status of their query at that time
